KARST

Clare Rogers

In creating the content for my handmade books, I am led mainly by the concept of a response to particular places or objects and I investigate processes of repetition and extraction. I enjoy exploring the sequence of patterns and visual qualities found in repetitive text and I also compile poems or phrases which are extracted from existing text, such as newspapers or books. I use inkjet printing and handwritten text to investigate the subtleties of black ink, graphite, carbon paper and use a variety of papers, card and binding techniques, and have recently been using found objects to create texture and develop mark-making. My handmade books compile of both single copies only and multiples.
